Biografi
Jan Šikl (born 1957) graduated from the Film and Television Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in documentary filmmaking in 1984. After graduation, he worked as director in the Short Film Prague studio. In the period of five years, he made five documentary films, thirteen commissions and eleven screenplays for the series The Adventures of Criminalistics/ Dobrodružství kriminalistiky.
From 1991 on, he has worked in his own film company Pragafilm. He made a great number of documentaries for Czech Television, such as Leaving for the Unknown/ Kufry do neznáma, The Final Kick-off/ Finálový výkop, On the Way/ Na cestě, Czechoslovakia 1957/ Československo 1957, Forever on the Road/ Stále na cestě, Jan – the Confession of a Child/Jan - zpověď dítěte, Another Possibility/ Jiná možnost.
In the DaDa company, he worked as screenwriter and director, making numerous parts of the documentary series Ten Centuries of Architecture/ Deset století architektury broadcast by Czech Television.
Films from the series Private Century/ Soukromé století were also made in cooperation with Czech Television. They were screened at a number of international festivals (e.g. Museum of Modern Art in New York) and received a whole range of international awards (e.g. the Pavel Koutecký Award, IDFF Jihlava 2005, 2006, The Trilobit Award, The Elsa Award).

Daddy and Lili Marlene is a lose sequel to the “King of Velichovky” part. The story is narrated from the poin-of–view of little Eva who recollects her memories of Velichovky farmstead and mainly her parents: daddy and Lili. The private films present us with an intimate view of their life and the relationships within the family.
